I want to work on campus…What should I know about on-campus employment?
International Students are allowed to work on-campus in the United States. International students must work with OISS and Student Employment Services to authorize on-campus work.
For information regarding eligibility and authorization, contact the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) at 310.338.2937 or oiss@lmu.edu. OISS is located in Malone Student Center, Suite 201. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, and until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Transfer Work (T-work)
F-1 students are not eligible for Federal Work Study aid, and therefore, cannot be employed under Work Study positions. However, international students are eligible for Transfer work (T-work).
Transfer Work is not a Financial Aid award, and it is funded independently by a campus department’s budget. This form of funding allows on-campus work for F-1 and J-1 international students. You may filter out specific T-work position through LionJobs or contact the LMU employer to learn if they offer T-work funding.
Below is a sample list of LMU departments that frequently hire students for T-Work positions. Please note, this is not a complete list, you are encouraged to do further research and ask departments if they offer T-Work position.
- Sodexo (Need to contact their office directly)
- Career and Professional Development
- Office of International Students and Scholars
- Student Housing Office
- William H. Hannon Library
- School of Education
- Student Health Services
- PLACE Corps

Students can drop-in with an international peer advisor or schedule a coaching appointment via Handshake with Angelina Lee, CPD’s international student specialist, to get assistance with locating on-campus employment.
Finalize Employment
Once an offer for on-campus employment is received, the student must work with OISS and SES to prepare the necessary employment authorization and documentation such as a Social Security card, form I-9 and tax documents.
