I want to know more about graduate school…

Graduate school is a common or even necessary step for many people as they continue down their post-baccalaureate career path. For international students, graduate school offers a few unique benefits:

  1. International students are able to stay in the US on an F-1 Visa for the duration of their graduate program. This means you may be able to continue studying in the US for several additional years even after completing your bachelor’s degree.
  2. Students with F-1 status are able to conduct internships and Curricular Practical Training (CPT) while enrolled in US graduate programs. For more information on CPT please visit the Office of International Student and Scholars' website.
  3. Each educational level (Bachelor’s, Master’s, doctorate…) earned by an international student makes them eligible for 12 months of "Post-Completion" Occupational Practical Training (OPT). This means that an international student is able to graduate with a Bachelor’s, work 12 months of OPT, enroll and then graduate with a Master’s, and then work an additional 12 months of OPT.
